This is the third book of Mr Sargent I read and I see there's one more, which has the same 4 people - Gonz, McKay, Heismann, and "the computer whiz" in it. I am certain I will buy it, as I enjoyed the books so far."Operation Spider Web" is good, overall plausible, and has sufficient depth to keep the reader interested. It is not your typical over-the-top military action stuff. He also throws in some technical details every now and then.
By the third book the stories seem to be getting somewhat repetitive, and less complex, which is a bit sad. I had hoped Mr Sargent would build upon "Seven Days From Sunday" and "The Shot To Die For" and get into the more detailed, complex story lines I enjoyed in peak Clancy books. But that is a minor blemish on an overall solid product.
I do have a serious gripe with this book and the others before it, and therefore I give only 4 stars. The only time plausibility is thrown out the window big time is when it comes to computers. To name a few instances that had me cringe:
A CPU is not the entire computer, it is generally a chip within the computer. There is also no setting in Apple Mail (nor any other commercial e-mail product I am aware of) that permits senders to have their e-mails disintegrate magically Mission Impossible style. Not all passwords at Hotmail (yes, not even there) can be cracked by knowing the account owner's mother's maiden name, and most certainly can you not "reset" passwords of free e-mail accounts to what they were after you changed them, unless you do know them beforehand (which makes the whole exercise of "cracking" them futile to begin with).
There are other, similar glitches but thankfully they seem limited to computer stuff. Therefore, I'd highly recommend Mr Sargent to get educated on basic IT things, or at least ask someone who is before writing this kind of obvious nonsense. Then I am sure even more people will appreciate his writing skills.

Operation Spider Web An MP5 CIA Series Thriller Book 3 edition by MH Sargent Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This was the first book of MH Sargent that I've read, a purchase. I enjoyed the character development, sparse background details, and quick pace. I wished there was more dialogue at times. The beginning story line was a little slow to develop. However, once the middle chapters unfolded, the plot ran well. The last chapter needed more development. It's a quick and enjoyable read. This is not literature, so 4 stars. I definitely will purchase another book.
Excellent series. I burned through all three books in order. The price was very fair. The second two books could have been priced higher because the first one sucked me in. The order of the books is somewhat important and I wanted to read them in order. I found them very entertaining, thrilling and action packed, especially the mystery, intrigue, espionage, CIA spooks, U.S. military involvement and Hi-Tech usage.
The characters were well developed and the CIA team seems to be a good group. I would have liked a little more physical descriptions of the locations and the characters to better help visualize them.
Not to be too critical but there were a few very minor errors. And I only mention it because it slows down the action when I thought I misread something and had to go back over the sentence to figure it out. Otherwise excellent read.
Can't wait for the next one!
The basic plot line of Operaton Spider Web provides food for thought about US involvement in Afghanistan and the relationship between various military and intelligence agencies involved in that effort. The author seems to see the military from a distance, and projects some unfamiliarity with common usage of rank and title. One character is consistently referred to as "second lieutenant xxx," whereas common usage would simple drop the "second" terminology in subsequent reference. There are several of these anomolies throughout the story. However, the primary plot is plausible and the characters engaging.

First of all, having read Sargent's previous two books, and having been in touch with this author, has made this book a very enjoyable reading experience. This book was the third in the series of books with familiar characters such as Gonz, Heisman, Peterson, and McKay. This book however focused a lot on the roles of women in Afghanistan. I think Sargent portrayed these women, Farishta in particular (the main female character), quite realistically. He provided her with a role, uncommon to women in Afghanistan, but realistic nonetheless.
I enjoyed this story a lot though because of the character Jamaal. You fall in love with this teenage boy. The way Sargent describes him is exactly the way a teenager would behave. He is very endearing, and makes the story.
The plot was as engaging as his other books, and you will on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Be prepared to feel a myriad of emotions when reading this book, from anger, to joy, to sadness.
You know you have found a stellar author when they can make you feel all of these emotions when reading their books.
HIGHLY recommended author. You won't be disappointed.
M.H.Sargent has done it again, super suspense, super mystery. I loved every minute of this story Operation Spider Web .99 for this price don't wait to snatch this one up. I read M.H.'s other books and all the players are back and so is the adventure.
Read in this order Seven Days From Sunday then read The Shot To Die For then Operation Spider Web You will get a well written totally great series that should be made into a film.
I can't wait for M.H.s other books.... Good clean writing.
